Stuy Town Dog Attack

The weather is slightly warmer. Perfect day for a walk. Not in Stuyvesant Town! As the snow melts in Stuyvesant Town it's revealing the remnants of irresponsible dog owners in the form of poodle bombs throughout the complex. An angry tenant just wrote us:

"I counted no less than 4 piles of dog shit on the Ave A loop between 14th an 3 Oval around noon today. I guess people feel the snow washes it away and nobody will notice. This place did nothing but make me angry for 3 years, now it's making me nauseous."

And if the mini-loafs aren't bad enough, residents are having to deal with unleashed dogs attacking their pets. A Stuy Spy snapped a photo today of this flier outside of Associated Market which reads in part:

"There is a brown and white bulldog short & very heavy that attacked my small dog. This dog was loose with it's irresponsible owners when I came outside 655 E14th Stuy Town at Playground 5. The dog chased my dog back up the stairs and grabbed it by the back, had my dog dangling in mid air screaming with pain and wouldn't release my dog. These people are completely irrisponsible."

The writer goes on to say the dog owners had to pry the dog out of their dog's mouth and left without saying anything nor offering an appology.

Non-residents are not allowed to walk their dogs in Stuyvesant Town and Stuy Town dog owners are suppossed to keep their dogs leashed at all times. Perhaps it's time security starts enforcing the dog rules around Stuyvesant Town before another dog is attacked, or worse, a small child.

This is the price for StuyTown allowing dogs to be brought onto the complex... few people actually register their dogs much less adhere to weight/size/breed requirements. And of course once the savages who live outside StuyTown knew there were dogs allowed, they bring in their own to shit here since they have no fear of actual police making them clean up & of course these dogs are usually the vicious breeds [of course its OK to bring said dog onto the property if the dog's owner is bringing pot to one of the residents ;) ] .... And I've seen residents actually drag their dogs to do their business there since they feel it requires no pick up
I predicted that this shit would happen, as well as literal shit all over the property, its like I'm living back in the crappy Bronx nabes I was in 11 years ago where no one picks up the shit....
5 years ago I never had to check my shoes before entering my home....
I hate this place

I correct..... :: that residents drag their dogs to the GRASS [or whats left of it] to do their business there.....

This is the legacy of TS. I love dogs but I know, as the dog whisperer says every week on his show, the owner has to be the”pack leader”. After close proximity with the dog owners here (never mind the non tenants), I would say that 95% are

1. Self absorbed a-holes who should not even own a plant, never mind a dog
2. Do not adhere to ANY of the TS regulations.

As a TA building rep, I am definitely going to bring this up with Al Doyle and John Marsh as a major quality of life issue here.

As per the other dog LL tread, I have also filed a canine waste violation post as well.

Yes, now that the snow is gone, I've counted 4 piles of dog shit outside my window on the ground. These dog owners have turned the area outside my window into their own dog run and makeshift bathroom!!!! I'd send a picture but we all know what dog shit looks like. So sick of these assholes and their dogs.

You guys will love this dog story! A friend and I were just sitting in the Oval when this small, yappy dog (off leash!) chases two little girls near the fountain. The kids were three, four years old tops and screaming. The owner of the yappy dog gets hold of it and apologizes to the family and kids who bolt.

As we walk by I told her the dog should be on a leash and shit like this gives the rest of us a bad name. There were other people walking their dogs nearby (on leashes) who weren't too thrilled with these ladies either.

All the passive aggressive bitch and her friend could do was give us a phony smile and continually and sarcastically repeat "thank yooouuu".

Fuck THAT! I called security from my cell and we waited for them. We told security what just happened and pointed out the two dog owners who were still lingering. The officer was really nice and told us that security has the right to ticket dog owners but Tishman doesn't want them to! He said he would talk to them and find out if they even lived here. As soon as he approached them her stupid dog went ape shit again barking.

I'm not sure who is worse, these arrogant dog owners or Tishman who REFUSES to do anything! At this point I am ready to start collecting all the dog shit and throw it at the leasing office.

Don't think I will?

I think you will and I think you should! Anyway, Tishman isn't our landlord anymore so fuck what they say. The "security" guy should have ticketed the stupid bitch who owns the dog.

He said he WOULD have be they are not allowed to.

They won't do anything because, for the most part, it's new tenants who have dogs (even though we are now all RS, some still pay higher rents than others.) Additionally, they want to use this "pro-dog policy" to draw more new tenants in, so don't want it to get out that they "harrass dog owners".

I'm totally in agreement with you and Homebody, but I don't see this changing. Perhaps the parents of the scared children should've called 911.

This morning I see a young woman scooping the poop in the grass RIGHT BY THE SECURITY BOOTH on 22nd Street. I tell her dogs aren't allowed in the grass, and she looks at me blankly. I tell the guy in the booth (never seen him before) but he does nothing. This evening I go to Oval Concierge to pick up stuff from the TA. On the way out I see a man let his little animal go right in the grass in front. I tell him dogs aren't allowed in the grass, and he goes ballistic! Starts screaming at me like a maniac that I should mind my own business, that he'll take me to court, he'll say that I assaulted him. I told him to go ahead and walked away. As I reached First Avenue I saw a young woman let her animal pee on the really ugly tall plantings next to the building. By that time I just didn't say anything. On my way up First Avenue I see a guy with a dog. The guy looks at me funny--I've told him a couple of times to keep his dog and its business out of the grass in front of my building. When I approach my building I notice tire tracks in the grass/mud. Is this really where I want to buy an apartment? Where people don't respect their own environment? Where they're too lazy to stay on the pavement instead of tromping through the grass? (And how horrifically ugly does ST look these days.) I've held off filling out the TA survey, but I think maintenance goes to the top of the list of priorities. Without it we've got nothing.

Forgot to say--the guy with the dog in front of Oval Concierge was no kid. Really pathetic. Maybe I should have assaulted him.

That's why I normally don't say anything other than give one of my famous 'You can die now' evil stares. We should not be expected to enforce the rules. He'll say you assaulted him. What the fuck man. What is wrong with these people. I'm calling security each and every time from now on. 212-420-5000 1,2. Fuckers.

Unfortunately, TS still owns ANDmanages STPCV. They will own it until foreclosure is finalized and they will manage it until Rose Associates takes over shortly. Then , as Adam Rose said on Sat. Wanna bet how likely it will be for any of us to ACTUALLY speak to Adam Rose except for 1 or 2 calls he may take on the first day for publicity purposes?

I'm sure Sabina would love to hear about this. I know she's got a dog story in the pipe line. I'll ring her tomorrow.

The "price to pay for allowing dogs into the complex" is that they have two-legged assholes attached to the end of those leashes. I don't know what image is more hysterical ~ the two screaming kids running from a little mopster or the 'thank yeewwww' lady floating arse up in the cee-ment Oval pond with the leash wrapped around her neck!! After recent attacks by loose dogs upon little leashed dogs, this small dog owner carries a knife with very long, sharp blade by my side at all times. I would hate to have to use it on a dog when it's the owner that should be put down.

These VALID complaints are exactly why I put my bid in to buy my apartment. So sick and tired of all the crap and paying through the nose for it, with no say in the matter, ever.

what's next? What amenities will they add in? a bar on the main level? how awesome, I almost have one in our building now, so why thehell not?

Last night around 2am there was a dog fight outside 447 / 449 because - surprise surprise - someone had their dog off it's leash.

A lady from 447 was walking her very gentle and very old husky outside on it's leash when a lady from 449 opens the M door and her Corgi bolts out and goes after the Husky. The Husky owner manages to push the Corgi off and the two owners get into an argument about dogs being off leash. The lady with the Corgi had the nerve to blame the Husky owner because she's "new" and says she's had her dog (illegally) for 9 years. Not sure what her argument was other than most of the older tenants know what a nasty fuck her dog is? Who knows.

There's no point for the Husky owner to file a complaint because we now know Tishman Speyer doesn't want to enforce ANY of their OWN dog rules because they don't want to scare away the new tenants.

Newsflash: If anything is scaring away new tenants, it's the unsocialized dogs running around off leash, attacking kids and other dogs, and shitting all over the place.

Happy Easter Egg hunting!
