Currently there are a dozen or so FDNY / NYPD vehicles in front of 15 Stuyvesant Oval. The building and part of the First Avenue Loop are closed off as of 8PM with flood lights pointed directly at the building. Details to come.Update: Gothamist originally posted the incident in their News section as a "barricaded emotionally distressed person" at 6:10PM but it has since been changed to "Jumper" and given a new address of 2nd Avenue and 18th Street. More Stuy Town damage control? The photo doesn't lie, it's clearly Stuy Town.

According to the Gothamist news map, it's a barricaded EDP (emotionally disturbed person).

Sorry for the double post!
Who took that great photograph?
The EDP. :-)
Stuytown seems to be making the News more often now, and for all the wrong reasons.
The best was the basketball player who drove drunk off the FDR and crashed into ST a month ago. Poetic.
"Did she jump, or was she pushed?"
Anybody know what happened? I'm in bed and disinclined to leave it.

Last night Gothamist had both incidents mapped and described at the same time.
Today Gothamist only has the "Jumper" incident posted.
ON AN UNRELATED NOTE
Paul Weiss, one of the most prominent law firms in the country, has agreed to represent the TA in connection with what is happening with the ownership of STPCV. They have agred to do this pro bono.
Dan Garonick was an associate at Paul Weiss before he ran for City Council so I presume he facilitated this arrangement.
This is very positive news for tenants.
I couldn't find it. Oddly, I've been thinking we haven't had a 'jumper' in a while. Wonder how it played out.
Happy the Saints won. LA could use the morale boost.
Pro bono? Wow.
Luxus, why do I have to hit 'refresh' constantly when I'm in here. Is it my 'puter? And even with three refreshes I didn't see ziggy's post until I posted. This happen to anybody else?
The bit about Dan G. being with Paul Weiss wasn't in the press release, and it's interesting.
That aside, the news made my day.
yetai - I also have to hit refresh or otherwise refresh the page constantly. Also, the site is generally slow.
RR - Dan G. has always been public about his association with Paul Weiss ... I think I first learned about it from his campaign literature.
Paul Weiss being on board is very good news (especially pro bono).
But the TA better not overbid again. I wasn't privy to the TA's business plan in 2006, but IMO there was no way the TA was going to be able to maintain Stuy Town as affordable housing with a bid of over $4 billion (absent government subsidies).
I think there is something weird going on with the database, but the idea of troubleshooting it makes me want to jump too.
I use Safari and I never have to refresh (just saying). The only thing that happens is that my log-in eventually times out, and the site is slow to accept my comments (nothing personal, I'm sure).
On another political note, I just saw that John Murtha died.
Please don't get me started on John Murtha who accused US soldiers of committing murder in Iraq, and when they were all cleared, he refused to even apologize.
We all know you have tons of abundant spare time, Luxie!
I had no intention of getting you started. I was just sharing the news that a powerful political figure had died.
The Observer has this on the latest: http://www.observer.com/2010/real-estate/exploring-bid-stuy-town-tenants-lawyer-paul-weiss
What is this thing, Safari?
C'mon! Don't try to play us this way!
Safari=Hunt to kill large animals usually in Africa and usually done by rich white guys who have nothing useful to do with their time
I thought that was interesting interesting, not interesting bad. Dan G is a straight arrow.
Here, Here!
Oops, my bad. I totally misunderstood you re: refreshing. Yes, I too need to refresh (or just click on site name) to see new comments.
Spray-on liquid glass is about to revolutionize almost everything!
http://www.physorg.com/news184310039.html
Spray on hair revolutionized my life!
Take THAT Hair Club for Men!
Aren't you swell? Not only do you snore and leave grease-paint on my pillows, you do pirouettes (sp) with my one thin blanket, leaving this cripple shivering.
Then
Then
THEN, when I pass out for 10 minutes you use my laptop to make a post like that??????
If I ever get out of traction I'm agonna show you what a revolution is, baby.
And Lux? I've lost 15 lbs. But don't feel sorry for me. Oh, and when the storm hits, you can have everything.
And, Lifer, fart jokes aren't funny to women.
ziggy, i like ya', but accusations are far from convictions (surely we both need not go over the differences...)
so please dont get me started on how american soliders have been CONVICTED of murdering innocent people over there. oh, and let us not forget about that southern charmer of a soldier boy who, at 19, raped a 12 year old iraqi girl, killed the rest of the family (read: witnesses) then the girl, and set fire to their bodies to hide the evidence. yeah, he was convicted, too.
DR
Don't get me wrong. If it is believed that a US soldier killed innoncents he should be tried and if convicted he should be sentenced like any other murderer.
But what Murtha did was join a bandwagon which "convicted" several soldiers of murder in Iraq before there was even a trial. All four were ultimately exonerated. Murtha refused to apologize to these soldiers even after he was exonerated. this is from a guy that agreed that KSM should be tried in a civilian court . So in his mind, KSM has more rights than accused US soldiers. That is warped liberal thinking.
Anyway, it seems that the "jumper" was just a sad case of a incoherent seemingly psychotic tenant who had spooked other tenants by talking to herself and screaming. Poor thing.
I thought that it might have been Robbie distraught that Clarabelle had turned him down again.
Miss me?
Congratulations to anybody who lives on the 14th St. Loop who managed to catch some shut-eye last night in the midst of all the horrific noise from the plows sent out hours before there was actually any snow to plow! Brilliant!
What? Was it stuytown or NYc plows?
Ridiculous.
It must have been ST plows. There were no plows on 14th St. since the city isn't dumb enough to send out snow plows when there's nothing to plow! Only TS would have them drive aimlessly in circles in the middle of the night hours before the blizzard actually hit. Apparently, they haven't cleaned out their desks yet.
Girl, I sympathize completely. Every snowstorm, or potential snowstorm, the salting bobcats ride in and out of the Ave.C storage room beginning at either midnight or 3:00am and continuing for hours, including last Saturday from 3:00AM to 4:30AM, when no snow ever arrived, with their earsplitting backup beep or their unmufflered motors roaring into the windows. January 2009, they continued all night, both nights of the weekend, with no reprieve, and on the third night, I called 311 and the maintenance guy on staff to tell them there was no way we could tolerate a third sleepless night and the kids had school the next day plus my kids were feeling sick from the constant fumes. The guy on duty told me he really couldn't care less if my kids were sick. It was my one, and hopefully only, experience of being a homocidal maniac and that guy was seriously lucky I didn't know his location or he would have been ball-batted. You know, what with my sleep deprivation and all.
Anyway, this is an issue that began and needs to end with TS. It should be strongly addressed as we go forward with new ownership. In the meantime, my husband turned me on to Hearos ear plugs, sold at Rite Aid and Walgreens. They feel a little weird but really do reduce the decibal level and may help you tonight. Good luck!!
LOL. Why are they still here? Are they even being paid?
That's horrible what that maintenance guy said to you! What a jerk!!! The plows and trucks didn't even seem to be salting - they were just parading back and forth and back and forth on the 14th St. loop for hours - starting at around 1:00 AM, making as much noise as possible even though it was basically a mix of rain and snow at that point with NO accumulation. Even if they were salting, I can't believe it's necessary to go back and forth over the same spot every three minutes for hours when people are trying to sleep. Thanks for the ear plugs recommendation. I also have a Marsona white noise machine that really helps block outside noise.
I'm not really sure who is running ST at this point!
Of course, now that it's actually snowing, I haven't seen any of those snow plows on the 14th St. Loop (only smaller ones along the sidewalk). LOL.
Well there may be no plows, but wow, do I have heat! Just had to close all of my radiators--it is so hot in here! Too bad there wasn't a way to channel the excess heat to melt the snow on the sidewalks and roads.
Yeah, I've had tons of heat all winter. The windows are open most of the time since I'm only able turn off the radiator in one room. But I'm not complaining - better too much heat than the skimpy amount we've often received in the past!
