14th and Ave A, huh? Isn't there a security booth at 14th and B just 1 block east?

There's a security booth at Avenue A, but that's all it is; just a booth. Nobody ever in it.

Blame the Victim

Proves the owner didn't live through the 1970's in NYC or that she/he is just stuid to leave that stuff visible.

sympathy=0

Umm, no one asked for sympathy, buddy.

It appears the point is to show that crime is running rampant in our neighborhood and the break-in only adds insult to injury for their being a f*cking security booth within 50 feet of this.

Read between the lines=100+

user-pic

I actually don't think PCVxd was offering any sympathy.

And I have to agree, leaving a GPS unit inside the car is not the best place for it, this is not a gated community.

Loathe: do you ever get anyone's points here? Or do you just disagreee for the sake of disagreeing? Any why does everyone on here seem to disagree with what you have to say...seemingly always.

Did you not read what I said?

No one said anything about a gated community. While a GPS in plain site is rather inviting, it certainly doesn't give anyone a carte blanche to take it. Do you care that there are actually TWO security booths near this, and cameras perched on the ledges of the buildings on each side of that loop on 14th.

Blame the victim? Are you serious? Explain something: is it a crime to leave your gps in plain sight? Or is it a crime to steal a gps in plain sight?

And I think PCV's allusion to events related to rampant crime decades ago and how leaving a gps in plain sight is asking for it is enough a cry for sympathy. Oh and there's that last bit you failed to read 'sympathy=0.' How dumb are you?

Just give it up.

user-pic

"How dumb are you?" oh goody ! more namecalling!

"Any why does everyone on here seem to disagree with what you have to say...seemingly always."

You're full of shit, poophead (the infantile name you called me just because you didn't understand my post). And you really shouldn't go around calling people "dumb," since you're the one who seems to fail to understand not only various posts, but when subjects are intended as jokes or ironic, like my lyme disease reference in response to Lux, and constantly need to have things explained to you. Seems your anger at loathemyspace is actually a projection of your own dismal comprehension skills.

And nothing is a bigger lie than this: "Everyone on here disagrees with loathemyspace...seemingly always." Everyone?? Always?? Total bullshit! And I've been posting on this blog much longer than you have, since it's beginning. In fact, aside from Go Ask Alice's remark last night, only Beulah and her two or three sock puppets (the other aliases she cowers behind in her pathetic attempt to try and manipulate the moderator to ban us) and, of course, her BFF, Ziggy, have attacked loathe. True, they make a hell of a lot of noise.....and try to make it appear as though a HUGE crowd has rallied behind them, and is cheering them on in their pathetic efforts to censor/ban us, but alas, it's just the two of them with their imaginary friends!

user-pic

Where does it say any of the stuff stolen was visible?

The ironically titled security booths have been empty for quite awhile now. They watch Sponge Bob in the management office now.

I was told those gazebo-like security booths, put up by Met, were illegally installed (DHCR?) and do not qualify as permanent structures, so they can only be used a few months a year or something.

user-pic

They are understaffed. What's left of them watch Everybody Loves Raymond in the Sliver room.

There are several cameras w/ views of loop entrances. I've seen actual shots when in mgmt office. If taping is digital and uninterrupted, security should have a clear shot.

It doesn't but thieves don't just randomly break into cars for the fun of it. They see something in there worth stealing. Smash and grab.

Thanks. That's right. No sympathy.

user-pic

I witnessed a car break-in just like this one on the loop road on First Ave jut north of 14th street about 10 years ago. It was in broad daylight, about 6-8pm during the summer with a ton of people on the street. I was walking behind two young guys who were casually walking south when out of the blue one of them leapt up and karate kicked a car window in without breaking stride. It was almost like ballet. The kid was in the car in a flash while his friend stood lookout. People went walking on by without saying a word, as if nothing happened. I leaned over and asked the guy in the car "what's up?" and the guy just looked at me and quietly got out and the two of them ran off...

user-pic

I had a friend visiting who parked his car on First and 17th and someone broke in to it. His car was ugly and covered in dirt and had nothing of any value inside.

are you Loathe or PCVxd because you seem to take offense and get defensive when someone puts either in place.

Loathemyspace is Loathemyspace only and
Girl is Girl only as confirmed by Lux twice.

I can't speak for
anyone else though!

LOL. It's your faulty interpretation that I was "defensive" or "took offense." Okay, yes, I do take offense at basic stupidity like your ad hominem attack on loathemyspace, and now PCVxd, simply because they disagreed with you about the car. But newflash....you didn't put either of them in "their place." You only put yourself in your own place, by showing even more of a stunning lack of basic comprehension skills.

Kudos to you, RR, for having the courage to intervene, unlike the sheeple who kept on walking!

user-pic

Seconded. They probably thought you were an undercover cop!

user-pic

/scratches head

Intervene? How's that? He watched the crime unfold and, basically, said "Yo" to the thieves.

... and they left. He said it happened in a flash.

RR writes that while they were in the process of busting into the car..."I leaned over and asked the guy in the car "what's up?" and the guy just looked at me and quietly got out and the two of them ran off."

Yeah, I'd definitely call that an intervention, and a successful one, since RR's action caused the dudes to immediately take off. And it was brave. You never know when a gun or knife is going to be whipped out or used while interrupting often drug-addicted, desperate thugs in the process of committing a crime.

user-pic

No! No "courage" was involved. 18 year old petty thieves who break into cars weren't going to hurt me (considering the time of day and the crowded street) and I wasn't being confrontational. Any one of the people going by could probably have stopped it just by just stopping and staring. If it had been late at night and the sidewalk was empty it would have been a different story.

user-pic

When I first moved here I lived on the pre-gentrified UES for all of one year. That was a pretty good place to learn the difference between the kind of petty criminals who break into cars and, say, muggers. I would NEVER mess with a mugger, ESPECIALLY a teen aged mugger.

user-pic

Huh? That should have read LES. Ludlow Street actually.

I was wondering about the pre-gentrified UES!

Does anyone know what Con Ed is doing around the perimeter of PCV?

Could they be putting in wiring for meters?

Just waiting for the go ahead after Bloomberg gets re-elected.

user-pic

C'mon folks. Register and vote for Luxie. There are a lot of blogs ahead of his just because more people took the time to register and vote and I bet those blogs are not nearly as good and serve such a useful and positive purpose as Luxie's blog. He did this for us; let's see if we can repay him a little bit.

user-pic

If you remember the 70s, then get ready for a remedial program 'cause here we go again, the Seventies 2.0 is apon us.

user-pic

What re-election? We've already re-elected him, he's just waiting until November to make the results public.

It doesn't...but you missed the point...as per usual.

And we are off!!!
This from someone with a Scott Peterson fetish

I don't get it?

Are you not the same as "Girl" above who links to a blog about Scott Peterson?

Right but you replied to my comment about Alice missing the point...stick to the topic to mitigate confusion!

Looks like Lux's site was hacked.

The posts from that "girl" were not made by me.

I have a very strong hunch who is posing as me, or had one of their tech savvy cronies/sock puppets do it for them, and Lux will be checking the IPs.

user-pic

Lux will get to the bottom of it and imposter 'girl' and all of her aliases will be banned for good.

Not so fast, GirL, before you blame Beulah or me or any other 'sock puppet:

I just copied and pasted your screen name and compared it to the previous poster's screen name, pasted them into Word, changed to all caps in the formatting and the 'poser poster' is actually 'giri' (capital 'i' at the end to look like a lower-case 'L.' Similar happened to me once, with a '1' (one) versus 'l' (lower-case L)...sneaky, huh?

Consider changing your preferences to appear as 'GirL' if you can. I want to be drYAMAKA if I can! yaaay!

Actually, your name never crossed my mind, dryamaka.

But I don't follow the rest of your post.

Oh, I think I understand what you meant about the capital "I" at the end. Good catch.

The real "Girl"'s name links to her Scott P blog, the impostor Girl is using the number 1 for an L. It looks nearly identical.

Do you have a roommate named Allison?

Negative...one of the British male persuasion (lol)...

...damn the Mini would be a sweet present for 'em, too.

The fake Girl is associated with your IP address so "she" was either you or your roommate. And oddly enough both you and fake Girl have VERY similarly formatted email addresses. So "she" is one of you, my guess is you.

Easy, Lux...I'm in an office with 4000+ people...

I just saw all this and I want to make it clear that it wasn't me! I don't appreciate this Dr yamafuckass mentioning MY name while proclaiming his innocence. How low and sleazy can you get? Get a life, jerk.

Easy, Lux...I'm in an office with 4000+ people...
riiiiighhttttt.

wake-up call: it's actually not that improbable in nyc.
and a lot of partners here have encoutnered the shared i.p. issue especially when editing those blasted Wikipedia pages and getting cute 'warnings' from posts they never made.

Ah, then I figured out who your fucktard coworker is.

Yikes, Stuy Mate. I was only re-itterating history, as it appears to have happened many a time before!

He most likely just used her name to register with. I'm sure Allison will appreciate that!

This is true. The queen of sock puppets, Beulah, shouldn't go around pointing fingers.

Cool, let me know if she surfaces.

I deleted the account.
