The Onion on NYU Dorm Fires

Police Slog Through 40,000 Insipid Party Pics To Find Cause Of Dorm Fire

Since Stuyvesant Town now houses kids from three local colleges, one of which recently set fire to their apartment, Lux Living  thought we'd share this clip via the Onion..

That party looked like a regular Saturday night event in my building - which is more dorm than regular apartment building at this point.

Funny, I was going to say that looks like the leasing office on any given weekend.

This has my vote for the FUNNIEST post I have ever seen at LL.

Thanks Luxie, it's a GEM !!

Surely this was taped in the apartment below me!

Bravo, Luxie!

What the hell are these "students" actually studying? If these are the "professionals" of the future, then God help us all. They look like the lowest form of life on the planet and I don't think they will improve over time.

I don't have any respect for NYU anymore. These kids are obviously the pot-scrapings whose parents pay the bills and that's all the university cares about. Does Rupert Murdoch own NYU now?

Good GOD ! You are all aware that is from 'The Onion' and is NOT actual NYU students??!??!?!?!
It's a JOKE aka SPOOF aka FAKE NEWS!

Well. What does one do with disorderly student neighbors? I don't know about you, but it's my opinion that these youngsters respond better to positive than to negative reinforcement. For example. Say you have just entered your Stuyvesant Town elevator only to find "Brianna," your delinquent NYU neighbor, smoking a marijuana cigarette. Don't do this:

• hit or kick her
• growl at her
• stare at her or stare her down
• physically try to force the release of the "cigarette" from her mouth
• grab the youngster by her cheeks and shake violently

...try this:

Ignore her.

College students tend to continue a behavior when it is rewarded, and to stop a behavior when it is ignored. So instead, the next time that you step into the elevator with her and she isn't smoking a scheduled controlled substance, reward her with a Fudgy Chocolate Chip Cookie. As your young neighbor comes to learn that not smoking hallucinogenic drugs in the elevator is desirable, you can gradually phase out the cookies and and give them only occasionally. However, you should remember that it's still a good idea to praise her when she doesn't smoke marijuana in the elevator with a simple pat on the head or a verbal "good neighbor!"

Of course, if you find ignoring Brianna's undesirable behavior is impossible, then you'll just have to take the stairs until she graduates.

................................

Edna's Fudgy Chocolate Chip Cookies

1 1/2 cups Semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cups Butter or margarine
1 Egg
1/2 cups Sugar
1/2 cups Brown sugar (packed)
1 tsp Vanilla
1 2/3 cup Flour
1/2 tsp Baking soda
1/2 tsp Baking powder
1/2 tsp Salt
1/4 cup Milk
1 tsp Lemon juice
1/2 cup Chopped walnuts

In heavy saucepan, melt 1 cup of the chocolate chips with butter, stirring constantly. Beat egg with sugars and vanilla until creamy. Mix in the melted chocolate. Combine flour with baking soda, baking powder and salt. Combine milk with lemon juice and stir until thick. Add the dry ingredients into the chocolate mixture alternately with milk mixture. Stir in nuts and remaining chocolate chips. Chill dough for 1 hour. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 350 degrees F for 8 to 10 minutes. Cool on wire racks.

Edna, I am going to try that recipe today! As for the response you suggest to the delinquent students, it pretty much works for two-year olds, so maybe it will work on our exuberant young neighbors.

It's art imitating life - and doing it with laser accuracy in this case.

riiiight. Stereotyping is a good thing.

Oh, I love the Onion. Hilarious.

Are you one of those puckering girls, Moolie? ;-)

I made the cookies Edna and they turned out very well. Had to leave out the walnuts though because my husband is allergic. Still came out well though. Maybe you and Mother should set up a stall at the farmers market selling Doodle's Delicious Delectables.
