If the fire alarm did not go off on every floor that is a serious building code violation and should be reported to the Building Dept and the Fire Dept.
Does anyone on this site live in the building or know anyone who lives there and can confirm whether or not the alarm went off?

There are no fire alarms. The building is fireproof.
The only alarm bell is on Terrace, and it's for the elevator call.

I have friends who live in that building. The building (at least on the lower floors) was filled with smoke. No alarm went off - not out in the hallways anyway. It was one of the dorm apartments which housed some particularly obnoxious students. I hope they got kicked out.

Yes, it's Stuy Town.
Today on my walk home (around 8:25 p.m.) I saw a PCVST car trying to help clear the way for an ambulance by 2nd Ave and 14th Street. The PCVST car pulled in front of already-stopped oncoming traffic. It was trying so hard to be a real police car! Poor li'l thing.
Gadzooks! They still allow smoking in those apartments? What would be the point of detectors; the damn things would never shut off. Won't Tish-Spey be pissed when all of Sty-Town goes up in flames and they can't collect back rent from rent stabilized tenants to pay for new ghetto blaster elevators! Speaking of which, why are the old ones being replaced; are they not plunging from the top floor fast enough? Crippling injuries not fatal yet?
