Tish Spy to Stuy Town: Misery Loves Company

Tishman Speyer hopes their Stuy Town residents pound the pavement to incease occupancy.Though Tishman Speyer denies they are having trouble filling Stuyvesant Town apartments, the management company has resorted to asking their tenants to pimp the apartment complex to their friends and family with their lackluster Tenant Referral Program.

With Stuyvesant Town's popular Tenant Referral Program you will earn rewards for dragging your friends and family into the hostile living environment you call home!

Refer a friend [or family member] who signs a new lease and both of you will receive a $500 American Express gift card that you can put towards ear plugs, air filters, water filters, and glue traps! In addition, you will also receive a choice of the following prizes for every three new signed leases that you refer by January, 2009.

-  Free $200 gift card to any of the following neighborhood pharmacies: Rite-Aid, Walgreens, Tampon Hut, CVS, or Hot and Crusty.

-  Free one year membership to Stuyvesant Town's landmarks of disconnect, Oval Fitness, Oval Film, Oval Lounge, Oval Study, Oval Kids, and Oval Bada Bing. (Free drinks if you attend Oval Bada Bing's Gorgeous Goat Night with your host Rob Speyer!)

-  A pre-owned, curb-rescued TV.

Just simply have your friends [or family] include your name and address on the form at the time of registration and perhaps we'll harass you less. So [come see for yourself] turn your friends and family into neighbors, and your referrals into rewards!

Tishman Speyer, so deep, like dirty water.
The sad conversation may sounds something like this:

Stacey: Mom, like, do you want to move to Stuy Town? Then we could, like, hang out more and stuff.

Mom: Honey, you know I have Asthma. The mold colonies would kill me.

Stacey: Its, like, not that bad.

Mom: Honey, you know your father has irritable bowel syndrome. That Stuyvesant Town water would turn him into a brown geyser.

Stacey: Mom, it's not THAT bad.

Mom: (heavy sigh) What is Tishman Speyer offering you now?

Stacey: Free gift cards to Hot and Crusty.

Mom: Are you still sleeping with that boy from the park? You shouldn't date people who sleep in trees.

Really, Luxie, the photo-shopping of the brown water on the post card---some of your best work ever!

Thank Tishman Speyer! I simply cut and pasted that gem.

Hey, and don't spend your entire American Express gift card on ear plugs, air filters, water filters, and glue traps.....make sure there's a little left over to purchase a space heater, too!

The card I received said that at least 50% of the proceeds from my Amex gift card had to be spent on a wedding gift for Robbie and his lovely bride.
By the way Lux you should provide a downloadable version of your card so we can hand it out to prospective inmates,er ,tenants.

I recently got into an argument with a stuytown staffer from the management office. They claimed that stuytown NEVER represented themselves as "luxury living."

In fact.. it was stated that "they never used the word luxury in any of their materials."

I know this to be different.. and was able to prove it.. but i'd be interested to hear others argue the point as well..on my side that is..

They were quite adamant about it..and well... smug.. and condesending...

it was very shocking to know they are so anti the word "luxury" and yet i seem to feel thats how they hooked me in the beginning.

Today was the first day I enjoyed talking with the IRS. Form 3949-A was a pleasure to fill out.

http://www.stuytown.com/

Stuyvesant Town offers one, two, three, and five bedroom, luxury rental residences in the heart of downtown Manhattan.

That was it..

and when i made them read it back to me over the phone... the response i got was shock.. followed by a..." i didnt know that was there."

really?????

i am so glad you dont know what you're marketing to potential residents.

i am waiting for them to revamp the website to remove that line.. it is in small print afterall.

very small.

Ok Anonymous. I give up . Who are you reporting to the IRS?

The word "luxury" is there alright, although now it is in very small print. They used to have it in very LARGE print! I wonder if they still have those huge banners hanging down the sides of some of the buildings advertising LUXURY apartments? I always thought that looked very tacky. I have to walk around the block and see if they still have those in place. The word "LUXURY" was screamed out from those banners! Good work, Lux Living!

Wait, are you saying they are trying to backtrack on the whole 'luxury rental' marketing ploy??? I'll post every single piece of their propaganda I have on the site, all of which has the word luxury on it somewhere.

Actually the banners advertising "luxury" apartments were replaced after TS bought the complex. I believe the banners now read "no fee" apartments

On both the ST & PCV sites, in small print at the bottom of the home page, it says "luxury residences."

Maybe they'll have banners that scream "Pottersville" just in time for the holidays!

Actually the banners should read "The New Hooverville"

If the TA reads this: Please put up the forums again. Some of us miss them so much. Please. Pretty Please.

The TA leadership will not reopen the forums unless they get a majority of the tenants to agree in writing never to criticize the TA leadership on the forums again, so if you want the forums start collecting the signatures.

Ziggy, please don't be so bitter. The TA does the best it can with what it's got and I think they have been overly criticized.

Quite frankly I am still unsure of what the Tenants Association does. Can someone enlighten me???

I used to know the answer to that question. Theoretically the TA is supposed to organize tenants, keep them informed about community developments, interface with the landlord, hold the occassional meeting, contest MCIs.
Unfortunately since we (luckily) failed to win the bidding for STPCV several years ago , aside from holding an occassional meeting at which most of the time is devoted to political speeches and contesting MCIs (which, given the pro landlord bias of ther DHCR Commissioners under Pataki and even today,is a neccessary but ultimately generally losing task) the TA has ceased to be what is once was - a vibrant organization which regularly challenged our then landlord, Metlife. I have no idea what has happened .I do know that most of the TA leadership has been in charge for a long time so perhaps they are tired , less interested , older, more complacent, who knows? What I do know is the TS is getting away with many things , particularly in ST, that could be challenged through demonstrations, lawsuits, community board meetings etc, yet none of these things are happening . I know Beulah and others will now write that I have expressed these sentiments many times. True enough- but I am trying to get some action. And yes I have tried to talk to members of the TA leadership directly. Maybe if more people call the hotline they will be more responsive.

Ziggy, did I read in a post somewhere on the site that you are a lawyer?

Yes I am but not real estate.

There was only one chair outside so I sat down and she sat on my lap (man she smelled good) we talked and she was wiggling back and forth on my simi hard cook making it harder. http://www.xoops.org/modules/profile/userinfo.php?uid=74369 ">nude tube
