Lux Living received an e-mail last night from Google notifying us that Tishman Speyer complained about our Google ad program and have shut it down. What do we learn?
That Tishman Speyer doesn't mind that you are without gas and heat for weeks at a time. It doesn't bother them that your apartment is taken over by mold or that your tap water is undrinkable. They are not fazed in the least by large rats and swarms of roaches infesting their buildings. Just don't dare show their ads next to ads for lawyers, water testing kits, and filtration systems!
And yet they wonder why tenants, both old and new, really, really, really dislike them. Glad to see they have their priorities straight!
This move by TS shows thety are leery of bad public relations. How about some picketing at leasing offices? TA leadership, are you alive?

I think he's talking about ads for stuytownluxliving.com that came on ON Google's when you searched for 'stuyvesant town'. I never got a chance to see them though. Am I right?

We are freezing..morning, noon and night, while a very very few others have some heat. Junk the new sensor system and keep it simple: turn the flow pipes from Con Edison on in the morning and turn them off at 9:30 at night. That's the ways it was and it worked for years..and if it aint broken don't fix it. This isn't a matter of being "green" and conserving...it's a matter of saving TS $$$$$$$. In talking with the folks that do have the sensors in their apts...they are the ones complaining about the heat.....if their apts are warm and the sensors control heat flow to other apts...no wonder most of us are freezing. The new system is BROKEN...get ride of it!

Who actually shut the ads down - Google or TS? If it was Google, can't you find a different search engine to run the ads and if it was TS what right do they have to do that? Google isn't the only advertiser out there, right?

It's hard to understand how TS had the right to try to undermine this site. When you walk into Stuy Town, do you leave America and your rights? Well, it's clear that we're not the only people checking this site to find out what's going on! Anyway the normal thing would be for their energy to be directed to correcting everything they've done and not done here. They made a mess. Hard to believe they have time to sabotage web sites instead of doing their work. It becomes more outrageous every day.
I regularly send the link to this site to many people who post it on other sites. Not all my pals are hillbillies and hicks and a lot of them have real estate connections. So stick that up your ass TS!
Google displayed ads on the site based on the content. When I posted about mold in Stuy Town it showed ads for mold testing and ads for Sty Town. Apparently TS didn't like this and whined to Google so they closed the account yesterday. Why they didn't just filter out Stuy Town and Tish Spy ads is beyond me. Making money was never my motivation for posting so I really don't care. I think it just further demonstrates the contempt they have for Stuy Town residents and their opinions. File under "PR Blunders"
Lux Living, can you use a different company or is Google the only show in town? How about Yahoo? That's the search engine I always use. Don't like Google.

What amazes me about these posts is that the readers care more about what TS did with regard to Google then they are about actually doing something to address all the issues in the community that Lux puts on the blog.

Right on, Ziggy!! I too feel that sometimes our energies on this site are diverted to trivia and grousing about the pettiness of TS, instead of organizing to move forward in reaction to the various ignominious situations TS drops on tenants on a now-daily basis.
My blood boils at their self-righteous stance about not re-comping folks who have lived without gas or heat, about not tending to the property with any good stewardship, and not even responding to the many complaints about noise and bugs and rats and everything else.
Get me a sign....I'll march in front of those leasing offices any time! In my twenty years here, I have never been so angry.
No heat in our apartment either. It's always friggin freezing! We should demonstrate in front of the leasing office ASAP. That's a sure-fire way to finally get their criminal behavior into the news.
You should call the TA hotline 866-290 9036 and tell them to set up a meeting for tenants to organize and ask for AlDoyle, Susan Steinberg or John Marsh to call you back. I have been asking for such a meeting for over a week , to no avail.

I've been arguing for a more, er, militant action for years. Maybe the much welcomed by me fresh blood is up to it. Some one mentioned doing a "flash" at the rental office. If that is where mobs of people show up at a certain time and place then disperse in ten minutes then I think that would be fun. I'm all for driving them mercilessly mad.
A place to start would be to "attack" Google.

Why would Frozen Assets think that it's a good idea to polarize and divide a Tenants Association that is ALL YOU HAVE in terms of any organized body.
You certainly aren't going to organize here, using an anonymous forum where people can take shots at each other. You think they're going to show up at events and reveal their identities to each other ?
Maybe Frozen Assets should go out to the corner when everyone is on their way to work and sign people up for the march on the leasing office ? Otherwise, trashing the TA is simply an efficient way to advocate shooting yourself in the foot.

Maybe the TA leadership which is the ONLY group that has a database containing names of ,and contact information for, all members of the TA could actually wake up and set up a meeting for tenants interested in picketing etc. to organize. Asking any individual tenant to organize a demonstration is ludicrous and that suggestion was probably written by a member of the TA leadership (or one of their buddies) who have shown a profound lack of effective leadership.
You just keep chugging along, trying to divide support for the TA into YOUR organization, one that exists only in your hopes (so far), has no membership or elected leaders, no written agenda, no track record, no liaison with community leaders, organizations or political leaders.
I'm sure that Tishman Speyer loves to read this shit, cause they realize that a group of ineffective, disorganized, harping individuals can only help their cause.
Maybe you might try working QUIETLY with the TA leadership instead of talking smack about them constantly in public forums ? You keep complaining about not being able to communicate with them, but I've even been able to do that. Just looked up some telephone numbers in the phone book. They're your neighbors, you know ?
I am simply a member of the community. Not a TA leader, and despite the fact that I agree with you that the TA hasn't been a very effective organization, I hardly think that chopping them down and rebuilding from scratch serves your (our) cause. At this point, I would think that your constant criticism and denigration of the TA leadership can hurt your chances of being heard fairly. Maybe you should consider that before you totally screw the pooch on this one.
I have to agree that TushWipe must be very happy to see tenants squabbling over the TA. Remember, United We Stand, Divided We Fall. Let's keep the infighting out of the public eye. Or at least off the radar of TS.
What's all this stuff about the TA? They can't even run the trains on time and now they want to raise the fare. Down with the TA I say!

First , don't you think TS has figured out that the TA is ineffective simply by the TA's lack of action?
Second, I have made these points on the TA website, got no response and then they took down the forums on Sunday for"maintenance" . They are stil down .

Ziggy, Jay, and all you other whiners: I was just wondering HOW many people would have to picket; for HOW long each day; and over HOW much time, for this to be an effective tactic. (NB: Cassandra, IMHO, a FLASH mob wouldn't even be annoying to TS-- instead, more a sign of confusion & possibly DIS-organization). In order to directly affect TS' bottom line (through the successful disillusionment of potential tenants) I'm thinking about 10 to a dozen people; over an 8-10 hour day; over a 6 month period (even if you could only do this on the weekends... their busiest days. I highly doubt that you could sustain these numbers 7 days a week. Ever!!). That said, since Spring and Fall are their busiest renting seasons, I think I'm being more than generous with these numbers. Still think it'd be an easy task?? With a million pressing issues, representing 25,000 tenants, please tell me just WHY the TA should listen ONLY to your suggestion; YOUR beefs??
The boards are down until Thursday--which they announced prior to the maintenance and for which a PM was sent out, as well. They didn't call you back within 2 days?? Imagine!! An ALL VOLUNTEER organization didn't disrupt and stop the presses 'cuz Ziggy farted... errrr,,, ummm... piped up. Give it a minute, man!! GIve them a break. Otherwise, the deaf ear the TA "may" be turning toward your "noise" may grow ever more contagious. I for one (and I've got TONS of company), am bored by your same ole same ole; likely others are finding your broken record equally tedious. Try being productive or pro-active... it's delightful and encouraging to see just how much energy our fellow neighbors can muster when they're not being brayed at.
I think we should go to Messrs. Speyer on bent knee and beg them to stop ruining over community. They will likely ask us to bring them the broomstick of the Wicked Witch of the West but even doing this is preferable to doing nothing.
Given everything else going on in the world today and reading some of the posts here and on the TA website(which remains down) makes me fear that someone in ST may lose it and that would be counterproductive. Calm ,but firm, action is a good antidote for stress.
