Stuyvesant Town residents at 522, 524 and 526 East 20th Street are still without gas, the Daily News reports today. Perhaps Tishman Speyer should considering turning the ghost town that is Oval Lounge into a soup kitchen! As usual Tishman Speyer blames non-residents for the shortage of meals they are providing...because there is nothing more glamorous than eating pre-cooked food in a basement."Three buildings in Stuyvesant Town have been without gas for a week, leaving angry residents of more than 300 apartments unable to cook or dry clothes.
"There are a lot of senior citizens in this building and they haven't been able to cook," said Eva Grubler, 53, who lives in one of the buildings. "I think we should be compensated."
The gas for the E. 20th St. buildings was turned off last Monday due to a leak in the main feeder pipe, said Robert Lawson, a spokesman for owner Tishman Speyer. The management said it's working with Con Edison to get the gas back as soon as possible.
Con Edison can't turn the gas on until all necessary repairs have been made, said Con Ed spokesman Alfonso Quiroz.
"We're not going to restore gas until the situation is safe," he said.
Lawson said management has been providing meals for residents. Residents said the food doesn't fit some folks' dietary restrictions and often runs out because nonresidents are sneaking in to eat."

Well, it seems to me that these buildings and this complex are showing their age and falling apart faster than Madonna...brown water, gas leaks, flooded streets, dying flora, vomit in the hallways and elevators, empty amenities, etc, etc, etc. Maybe it is time to just tear down these walls, Mr. Speyer. Perhaps you and your homie Mickey Three Terms can channel Robert Moses to ram it through. Sorry Bud, you are just a pawn in this game of greed that the oligarchs are playing.
The other 107 buildings in the complex are prone to the same problem but Tishman Speyer will not do anything to remedy the issue until it’s too late. I think it is deplorable that they are putting their tenants at risk, possibly, because they don’t want to spend the money up front to fix the illegal fixtures.
I hope people are using the "File a Complaint" link on this site and are writing the local news stations.
So you agree that Speyer and Speyerer are assholes. They bought this project with the support of little Mikey who probably egged them on with his superior financial experience. These financial experts are getting their comeuppance. I hope that they are feeling humiliated. Old Jer could sell off those art works he's been hanging onto for 40 years and pay off the loan in one fell swoop. He, however, like little Mikey, prefers to settle things at the expense of the regular folks. These oligarchs have no regard for anyone but themselves. Anthony Weiner or Bill Thompson, even Madonna would be more desirable.
A gas explosion would get rid of those pesky rent stabilized tenants and also speed up demolition to make way for glass clad fifty story condos. Maybe that is what the new owners are hoping for.
