"Stuyvesant Town residents have been alerted that a controversial electronic photo key card system will replace lobby door keys starting Thursday.
The move is already drawing criticism from some residents who say it would make it easier for Stuy Town to identify and remove tenants who illegally sublet there.
Still, signs posted in the massive World War II-era rental complex state that lobby keys will no longer work after Wednesday, October 15th.
In order to obtain the key cards, residents must present a photo ID such as a current driver's license, student ID or passport at the complex's management office. Tenants may obtain cards for employees or guests by accompanying them to the office.
The key cards are part of a new security system at the complex that includes cameras in elevator cabs, sensors on roof doors, and roof alarms, the flier states."

They had a security guard in the lobby of my building and he took photos of me for my card. He kept telling me to 'pose sexy' and asked if he could take some photos of me with his cell and I was like no way. Perve
I pay rent, market value, on time. Why do I have to allow a security guard to take a muddled photo of me with a digital camera in my lobby in order for me to enter my building? Get real.
Dang! I lost my lobby ID since they took it a year ago. I reckon a reissue will cost 138 bucks so I guess I'll use the kid's one; it's not like they'd notice.
Well. One doesn't need a driving license to ride the bus, nor a passport to spend August in Rockaway Beach, so I would have been in the lurch if it weren't for my knitting class: Cooper Union absolutely insists upon Student IDs! So now I have one of these fancy card keys. On the other hand, one doesn't need any sort of identification to sit around watching Rachael Ray, Megan Mullally, and Dr. Keith Ablow all day long on the Philco. So now mother must either depend upon myself or the kindness of strangers for her building entrances and egresses, won't she!

Well, the good thing is that Oct. 15th has come and gone and my front door key still works. If this is a usual T-S schedule, I'll be fine 'til the tulips start popping up.
