Stuyvesant Town's Rent Stabilized Tenants Face Mass Evictions

Stuyvesant Town residents living at 522 East 20th Street were faced with mass evictions.Stuyvesant Town residents living at 522 East 20th Street were faced with mass evictions this past weekend when their stabilized apartments were abruptly destabilized to accommodate a contract with The New School.

On August 1st, residents received a notice via e-mail from Tishman Speyer alerting them that they had to be out of their apartments by August 15th because their apartments were promised to The New School to accommodate students returning for the fall semester.

The notice went to the entire 12th floor of 522 East 20th Street and claimed the tenants were chosen for eviction because their July rent was late by three days. "This is absurd, they slid my rent bill under the door on the third of July," a frustrated tenant tells us. "I paid it the same day! Now I come home and all of my things are being heaved into a garbage truck!"

Operation Clean Sweep, as garbage men referred to it, began Sunday afternoon when most tenants were visiting their families for Sunday dinner. "I came home and my life was gone," another tenant sobbed. "My furniture, my photos, my Christmas ornaments! Where will I go?"

Tishman Speyer spokesman, Bud Perrone, had little sympathy for the tenants. "Lillian Vernon?  Fingerhut? Hardly the riches of a king."

Those trashmen can't cart that away! My missing swimdress appears to be in that pile!

Our “Buster" is a complete rogue. He refuses to speak a word of English, is rebellious, steals, fights, drinks, carouses and has absolutely no repect for authority. So my wife and I had no choice but to ship him off to The New School. His dorm room just happens to be located in your Stuyvesant Town. Here's hoping you people will have better luck shaping Buster into some semblance of a civilized human being than we did!

Mr. Amame

I wish you could have moved Buster here when he was four, but don't give up hope! The only way you will be able to teach him respect for authority is for us to have Stuyvesant Town Security Guards show up at his "dorm room" at 4:30 in the morning to politely ask him to turn down the raucous music and douse the bongs when his neighbors complain! There will be consequences if he doesn't do so, as soon as we can think of some!

If your son attempts to defy us or speak in a foreign language, we may decide to move him in with one of our Stuyvesant Town rent stabilized families. Seeing how "the other half" lives may just be the wake-up call he needs!

Yo Stuy Town,

Like a whammy! Where da bluntheads at!? Nevamind, I'm a be lampin' an' hittin' skins Big Willie style in Stuy Town in no time, yo. Livin' lux large! Now flow off, bag chasers!

Ed Amane,
You have made a wise decision about Buster's future. We at Stuyvesant Town are fortunate to be able to receive the thoughts of the great psychotherapist, Gerald Schoenwolf whose expertise is unrivaled except perhaps in the American Nazi Party. Dr Schoenwolf has a column in our neighborhood newspaper, Town and Village, and if he can't put your Buster straight, no one can.

Your name itself suggests a vegetarian leaning which could in part, in addition to faulty parenting, be a cause of Buster's behavior issues. We hope that Buster will be permitted exposure to meat and meat products while he is attending the New School. It is our experience that when students have the right to choose, mental health improves. There are many opportunities for carnivores in the neighborhood surrounding the 20th Street building where Buster is assigned dorm space. Furthermore, the owner of our building complex also has a history of behavioral issues and will be able to empathize with Buster. Bondings with empathic authority figures who have had similar experiences can be a real boost to a student's self esteem.

Welcome aboard Buster and the Amane family.

Dr. Schoenwolf is nuts! All it takes is an hour with Beulette and she can turn any man around! She has done it so many times. They turn around and run for the hills!
