What Is VISITAX?

VISITAX is the new mandatory tourist tax for international travelers visiting Cancun, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and Isla Mujeres. This fee is in addition to the hotel and airport taxes already included in your travel package. This new tax is required for all foreign visitors over the age of 15. You can pay VISITAX before your arrival, during your stay, or upon departure from the state via the new website or at the Cancun International Airport terminals.

There are a few exceptions to this rule, however. Mexican citizens and permanent residents, children under the age of 4, and people traveling for medical or business purposes are exempt from paying VISITAX. It is recommended that you get your VISITAX pass processed online before you leave home, as this will save you time and hassle when you arrive in Mexico. You will receive a QR code upon payment that will serve as your proof of payment. You will be asked to show this at various points during your vacation and it’s important to keep a digital or printed copy handy.
