Stuyvesant Town continues to build on their Cold War/institutional design theme that gives the complex that warm, cozy feeling. First, they resurfaced the businesses on First Avenue with muted, metal mesh cages and now they are filling the Avenue C Loop with not one, not two, but three dumpsters!What could be more luxurious than opening your window to the sight and smell of piles of garbage? We're pretty sure this breathtaking vista is not pictured in the propaganda handed out at the new leasing office!

I really don't understand the rationale behind those dumpsters. Has the NYC Sanitation Department stopped picking up the garbage here? Why are pickups done in the middle of the night? I can only surmise that it is based on a model that Tish Spy uses in its commercial operations, eg, in Rockefeller Center or the Chrysler Building, which are mostly empty of people overnight and the dumpsters are in the belly of the buildings rather than on the street. Any thoughts?
The rationale behind these dumpsters is to show contempt for the residents of Stuyvesant Town, especially the residents who live on the Loops. The fact that people who are woken up on a nightly basis by the emptying of the dumpsters have been crying out for mercy (and sleep) for well over a year, together with the noxious stench and rat infestation that the residents of the Avenue C Loop have to endure is living proof that Tish Spy just loves to make life as miserable as possible for those residents. Maybe this type of "waste management" is the way it's done in the commercial buildings that Tish Spy owns, but even people as stupid as the puppets who manage the property here are, they must realize that this is NOT the way to do it in a residential complex. These dumpsters are as blatantly and openly contemptuous of residents as would be the case if Rob Speyer came into your apartment, squatted and took a dump right there on your living room carpet.

You might want to check out, and report on , what is going on on the tenants' association website forums ,specifically the unwillingness of the TA leadership to even discuss with us tenants meaningful action to deal with problems like the dumpsters.The lack of true leadership is appalling

That's total bullshit. Anyone can post on those forums. What's the matter, just because not everyone agrees with everyone else, you cry censorship ? Hogwash.
I think the point is that, although the TA is, for lack of a better phrase, the tenants' "spokesperson", they are unwilling to organize any meaningful action (i.e., a rent strike) in response to all of the bullshit that we've been put through over the past two years.
It used to be that all of my friends in New York were jealous of my apt. Now they all say "I can't believe that you have to live in that dump." Reduced services? Absolutely. No quality of life? Ditto.

Nobody has to agree with what the other person posts, but if the moderator disagrees he/she simply banishes the topic! Check your facts before you post total bullshit on this site.

I am the guy who got shut down for criticizing the TA leadership for their inaction. I never used a single offensive word . I am a lawyer and Wide Awake you are technically right that the moderator of a private site can pretty much do what he/she wants-Having said that in my experience there are 3 groups of people who shut off debate they don't like- Communists, Fascists and liberals who normally are the first to cite their constitutional rights but who, because they are liberals, believe that these rights do
NOT apply to those who disagree with their point of view. My strong inclination is that the moderator and most,if not all, of the TA leadership fall into that latter category.
They have displayed an amazing lack of leadership. One prime example is the dumpsters which not only remain on the loop months after TS assured everyone they would be moved but now ,according to Lux, their number has increased.

Ah to be so uninformed. I do live on 23 Street and when the Verizon construction started I called 311 many times , called the media ( there are several stories in the archives of Town & Village), called many local officials, attended 2 meetings at CB 6 , including one that included Verizon corporate types, DEP,and local politicians. I also called the police when they were working on Sun. When the police showed up they didn't take it seriously until I asked them to look at the permit, which did not allow them to work on Sundays.They were fined and shut down.
I tried getting other tenants involved but other than me and 2 others the tenants would do no more than call 311 and complain.
THAT IS WHAT YOU SHOULD DO ABOUT THE DUMPSTERS. .yeah this blog is funny but underlying the humor are some serious issues like the dumpsters and the dirty water. But if you do no more than write a cutesy anonymous message here , nothing is going to change.

If Garodnick was personally involved with TS on this issue, I can't figure out why TS would continue to be so arrogant about this damage to the quality of life of their tenants. What power do they have that makes them immune from action by other city agencies ? When restaurants put A/C units on their rooftops or exhaust fans for their kitchens, it invariably becomes fodder for the local CB because residents of neighboring buildings are affected. How can TS have a legitimate reason for putting 20 tons (or whatever) of garbage in front of their buildings and simply ignore the pleas of RENT PAYING tenants to please not have them there ? Why should people be forced to live next to a garbage dump ?
I think a bunch of people need to go to the CB 6 meeting and state their case !!
