Stuyvesant Town's Oval Essentials Opening...Eventually

Last night members of Stuyvesant Town's Oval Essentials, formally known as Oval Amenities, received an email letting them know that the We're not sure if Oval Management is red-wine-emailing or if they have hired prison inmates to scribe their correspondence but whatever the case may be, they should perhaps polish up on their communication skills.

Last night members of Stuyvesant Town's Oval Essentials, formally known as Oval Amenities, received an email letting them know that the "essentials" opening date has been pushed back yet again. The email sent by American Leisure, a company that appears to be providing the additional luxury to Stuyvesant Town, stated the "essentials" will now open on October 20th, ten days later than the recent postponement date of October 10th given to another "essentials" member on September 29th. The Oval Essentials / Amenities were originally scheduled to open today, October 1st.

The informal and typo addled email stated:

"From: Manny <mmartins@americanleisure.com>

Subject: Oval Essentials Opening update

Dear Oval Essential Member,

The new Oval Essential spaces were going to be opening in the beginning of October. Unfortunately due to some unforeseen delays we've regrettably pushed our official opening to October 20th. However, there will be a preview period with schedule events starting October 11th. A schedule of times and space of each event will be posted and sent out by Friday 9/3. We do apologize for any inconvenience but are confident you'll truly enjoy the completed product and services. Please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions.

Think about deleting that email! Unfortunately Stuyvesant Town residents are well aware their "amenity / essentials" providers have yet to harness the power of email or anything for that matter. Several weeks ago Abigail Michaels' Oval Concierge sent out an introductory email that revealed their entire email mailing list to all of its recipients. Several days later they sent out another email apologizing for their boobery.

Yeah Manny, I have a question. Why did you drop out of high school?

Dear Tenants,

I am overly qualified to work at Oval Management!

Now I know that Beulette can get a respectable job because she can get a job with Oval Management. She is practising her typing right now. It is so good to watch her pecking away with one finger, little tongue protuding slightly through the gap of her missing front teeth. She will be such an asset to Oval Management! By the way, are we going back to the future because thought that 9/3 had already come and gone? Also, 9/3 was a Wednesday. Oh well, it's all relative.

Only a fly-by-night corporation would have an address at an airport!

It's obvious to me that they haven't signed up enough residents because they don't seem to have the budget to employ anyone that holds a high school diploma.

I really think we should organize a tenant occupation of the facilities when the unlock the doors.

Unlock the door? I hope you're not suggesting we enter those awful spaces? They'd lock us in and torch it like Lux mentioned in the Oval Lounge - Coconut Grove post!!!

That's a good point Alice.

Maybe we can encourage some of the dogs to poop in the lounges instead of on the lawns, after all, they were converted from the bathrooms.

One problem we have is that we are all anonymous including Luxie. Sticking one's neck out can lead to expensive problems for the neck sticker-outer. However, it seems to me that we need a pre-emptive class action lawsuit before the mfers ask for increases on their so called improvements. A class action lawsuit would be based on the various issues discussed on this site
Our problem remains how can we organize if we're anonymous. I have never before been inclined to attend a TA meeting, but I certainly will be there on the 19th. It should be as interesting as tomorrow's VP debate. I assume that most of the people living in Stuy Town have the same complaints. The idea of paying for these 'improvements" pisses me off even more than Sarah Palin ending up as Vice President or President. Well maybe not more, but as much.

You do have a legitimate voice as part of an action that's organized under the umbrella of the Tenants Association. Come to the meeting and speak your mind.

Also, most (if not all) of the grounds work TishScum has done is not MCI eligible. The Intercom and Security related stuff is, but it will be interesting to see how they justify the MCI when they've cut the Security force by 33%.

If they are so Essential, how can we live without them until October 20th?

So the Z100 apartment giveaway ended last week.. Who the heck won?

According to the rules link, the winner is subject to having to pass the standard lease agreement credit rules - meaning earning 40x rent.

How many z100 listeners earn 100+k?

Sooooooo.... when can we expect the z100/Tishman Speyer press release with the winners name??

Will management make bad on the offer and quietly try to make this "bad idea" go away?

Though we are all anonymous on this site and the Tenants Association site, it doesn't mean we can't complain to the right people using our real names. With regards to the "emergency" facade work they did last night at midnight on First Avenue, I think more tenants would have called to register complaints if they knew WHO to call.

I am going to start a new page of direct contact names / numbers tenants can call to report the midnight construction, golf carts on streets, stolen property, etc. Off the top of my head I know I have posted the contact info for someone at the DOT to report the golf carts so we can start with that. If anyone else has information they would like to contribute to the page they can email it to me at pcvstluxliving@gmail.com. I'll add it tonight under the the "related Links" section.

This way people can register complaints to the proper city channels and not have to worry about being called "problem" tenants by management and face eviction. I know by the emails I get and the comments I read that the people who participate in this site are very intelligent, capable people who want to take care of their community and not watch it be destroyed by Tishman Speyer. I think if we can channel our frustrations we might be able to make a difference.

Way to go Luxie babe. I filed a complaint wih the DOT, but of course never got a response. I think we need to keep on filing complaints.
To Where's my Free Apartment..... the winner was announced in last week's Town & Village newspaper, complete with photograph. Get with the program Dude.

Just occurred to me - is TishScum going to pay the taxes on the cash value of the prize or does the Z100 kid get stuck with that?

Today, I,someone who relates to 14th Street and the East Village more often than to the inside areas of Stuy Town, walked through the Oval area en route to drop my rent check into that dinky kiosk which has no human being present. As someone who always reads this blog, I was eager to see how the Essentials were developing. The walk around the Oval was like walking through Chinatown. I never saw so many people, vehicles and material for construction in one place. I assume that there will be some window coverings on those glass boxes otherwise they will become a voyeur"s delight. Despite all the commotion, I must admit that the area is still lovely and park-like despite the missing trees and trampled area.
I live on 14th and C and miss the rent drop box that was just steps away on 14th years ago so as I walked I called Stuy Town to inquire whether there were any other drops for the rent beside the Oval and management office. After pressing a multitude of numbers, I finally reached someone with a heavy accent of undetermined origin who told me "no', then asked me for my name. Astonished, indignant and mildly paranoid, I expressed my contempt for his question and hung up. Weird, eh?
I am going on a bit here, but I have one more thing to say. Yesterday evening while my significant other and I were killing time before a Rosh Hashanah service, we sat in the open area of Bryant Park where a concert was going on. The lawn there is lush with grass and quite lovely despite a lot of use. There is an abundance of topsoil. Why don't our gardeners add topsoil to our lawns to eliminate the muddiness when rain or water interacts with them?

I hope this is not a senior moment or a hallucination, but I swear I saw an article and a photo somewhere, about a Z100 winner. It was a young woman. It was not on the web, but in a paper, I think, The Post. I've been searching the web to find it, to no avail. Maybe she reneged and T-S had it wiped from history.

Another article where the tenants' experience, except for the attempts to oust rent stabiled tenants, is conspicuously missing.

The winner was in the T&V. She said that moving to New York was on her "to do" list. Oh, great.

Thanks "E" Line, I knew I read it somewhere.

Does anyone know if Joey Arak still lives here?

Boobery lol!

Stuy Town's new slogan should be "Boobery in Abundance!"

To Tit Mouse: Are you referring to my Beulette's assets?

Anybody notice they ripped the chess tables out? I guess the chess club has to join "Amenities now..." Oh, wait, it was because of annoying late night gatherings.

I guess the benches will go next.

But let's not depress ourselves.

Cassie
