Stuyvesant Town's construction project at 14th Street and Avenue A is weeks behind schedule. There has been no word from management when the road will be completed, if ever.
"Mother Nature's Lepers" enjoy a filthy feast after several large trees were ripped out at the corner of 14th Street and First Avenue. Broken boards add ambiance.
Because if there's one thing Stuyvesant Town needs it's more dirt!
Stuyvesant Town used to host a yearly flea market but discontinued it because the event didn't mesh with Tishman Speyer's new luxury image. However, apartments with limited heat and gas, and an excess of garbage piled outside just beg to be rented!Photos submitted by various Sty Spies.

My apartment overlooks this fiasco, and I can't figure out what the hell they're doing, since the road looks exactly the same as when they began, if not worse. They seem to be constructing some underground command center for Tush-Scum, which would explain the giant holes, similar to the hatch in "Lost," that will also serve as a safe haven for them after the "accidental" gas explosion that levels many of the buildings.
girl,
Just FYI, from observing the other loop road projects, first they spend months ripping up the sidewalks and laying down a border of cobblestone pavers, Then they replace the good concrete sidewalks with cheap asphalt. Then they replace all the curbs, not with granite (too expensive), but with poured concrete (cheap, and if it's not properly prepared, will last only a few years). Then, they rip up the asphalt road and put down a new surface (which BTW, they did just a few years ago.
The Con-Ed project has to do with some main steam feeders that come into ST at 14th & A. They're "improving" them, but at least Con-Ed works much faster than the goombahs that TS hires to do their repaving.
They seem to be stretching this project out as long as possible, so they can file for a HUGE MCI (that they will collect in perpetuity). See how RS tenants are totally screwed by the GOP Real Estate/Bruno/Pataki scumbags ?
And if we repeal Urstadt, will King Bloomie cut us a break ? (see above sentence).
This is sad. It's criminal. Stuyvesant Town really was beautiful at one time. What a shame.
I almost rented an apartment in Stuyvesant Town but after walking around the place I decided to rent elsewhere, partially because of scenes like this. For $3,500 a month I don't want to live in a place that looks like this.
Does anyone know what they're doing?
Dear Fed Up,
I think it's obvious that TS wants to chase people, both market rate and stabilized away as fast as they can. Jerry and Rob can't wait to start knocking down some of the buildings to erect glass coated eye sores. The wrecking crews are honing their skills on the 14th St. loop and the "mystery" demolition on Avenue C.
What a dump! I feel sorry for you folks living there.
I just signed a lease for a two bedroom apt., less then five blocks away from PCV/ST (with a door man) for $550 less a month then what Stuyvesant Town wanted.
Oh, jeeze! I really could've used some of that furniture! Every penny I have goes into my rent bill leaving me with no extra money to refurnish. t' s actually painful to see the way the porters & garbage collectors destroy very decent furniture by crashing then mashing it into the truck. :'( Maybe TS should've turned their trashy "Oval Amenities" into a thrift store or two...
Monkeys in management. On second thought, monkeys could manage better.
Thanks for overspending hundreds of thousands on trees/plants without having the staff to plant them quickly so thousands of dollars of dead trees and plants went wasted. By the way, a 100 square foot plot of land doesn't require 200 rose bushes in that area. I used to work as a professional gardener here in the city and it's a mess here! Not only are there too many plants/trees in most locations which makes them all compete for nutrients, but the water usage alone MUST have caused costs to triple.
Thanks for not taking care of the 14th Street Loop during the summer when most people are away. Thanks for holding off on the construction until schools were back in session and during New York's hectic fashion week. I know it doesn't make much sense to inconvenience your tenants as little as possible. I also love hearing construction before 8am on the weekends too--nice touch.
LOVE your rent-a-cops who fight with the cabs and car services to get in. I'm so sorry for trying to live! Maybe my over-priced rent isn't priced high enough. It must take a lot of money to hire professional assholes to sit on their butts.
Thanks for NOT understanding gravity, water, drainage and how to build walkways. Enter the building @ 521 E 14th Street on a rainy day. I hope you brought your swimsuit.
Oval concierge has improved, but that being said, don't let them know--they have a LONG way to go. By the way, THANK YOU for making it EXTREMELY difficult for messengers to find the place with your First Avenue address but your First Avenue LOOP location.
I'm so glad you opened the Lounge. I always thought having someone stand around staring at a wall mounted big screen tv was a good use of time and resources. Let me know when you're hiring. Oh, but wait...then I couldn't afford to live here.
By the way, do you really think we don't know what's going on? You're in great debt so you decided to raise the already inflated rent prices more. Then you get complaints. So you go into MORE debt with a huge overhaul "for our own good" so you can justify huge rent increases. Brilliant way to manage finances...but sorry, I don't think the Federal government is gonna help you like your contemporaries. No problem, just keep "sticking it" to your tenants; I'm sure that will solve EVERYTHING. I love having my stock portfolio shrink while my landlord makes my wallet shrink. THANK YOU!
It's hard to fathom that your company hasn't gone bankrupt already because there is no sign of intelligence among your ranks. How very sad...for all of us!
