In their continual effort to conserve energy, Tishman Speyer has now darkened their new partially broken sign at the new Stuyvesant Town leasing office. Since inquiries about apartments are at an all time low, management is also considering turning off the lights inside the stark ghost town as well.Photo submitted by a Sty Spy.

Brings to mind something Beulette's teachers often said about her: "The lights are on, but no one's home."
I think Tishman Speyer or Pishman Steyer as they are known to the roaches and I don't mean Maggie Terre and Suzzy, seems to be suffering from a bad case of low self esteem. Is it because they are greedy pigs or is it because they represent all that is wrong with today's economy or are they just plain ugly?
you(the author of this site) are a real jackass with way too much time on your hands. i have lived here for over 31 years an love this place. it is clean, safe, beautiful and very enjoyable for most of us who live here. you obviously live in an ivory tower with no roaches or mice or rats. i for one have never seen a roach, mouse or rat in my apartment. have i seen any outside, yes this is nyc after all. there are beautiful playgrounds, lawns, benches for people to congregate. the company is constantly making improvements like the one's they are doing right now in the oval(the oval amenities which i am very exited about). of course there always are idiots like yourself who have nothing better to do than complain. if you really don't like it here please move and leave us alone and no my name is not tishman or speyer nor do i work for them.
John,
All of us love this place, especially those of us paying a reasonable rent. It is love of the place that drives us to complain so much about the changes that are detriments, not improvements. Since Stuy Town is so large, some of us never get a chance to see what is going on in other parts of the complex. You must be one of those folks. Are you worried that his site will dissuade people from renting and therefore there will be a foreclosure? Is that why you are acting as if you are blind to what is happening here?
John, if you have lived here for 31 years you are obviously one of us folks who Tishman Speyer wants dead - and the sooner the better - because they want your apartment. That's what the whole overpriced purchase was all about. You like people who want you to die? Don't forget to put Robbie and Jerry in your Will then.
Hey y'all out there. Call Shitty Hall this morning and tell those folks over there that we don't appreciate Mayor Bloombastard colluding with his billionaire pals to overturn the will of the people and put his odious self up for a third term, notwithstanding that we have told the little twerp NO twice at the voting booth when asked about term limits. You want Bloombastard, Robbie and Jerry and their pals to continue shitting all over the city? Make that call folks.
My dumb dumb mama, who thinks that SHE is the sharpest knife in our drawer, forgot to tell you that the number to call is 212-788-7210. Y'all get to speak to a real nice lady (something my mama should try to be sometime), tell her you want to comment on the term limits issue and she'll put you into one of them there voicemail thingies and you can speak your piece. So easy that even my mama could do it. She thinks she's so smart, that woman. You should see her sinking my Southern Comfort on her "just popped in to see how things are" visits. Tart!
To John who's been here 31 years and thinks Lux Living is a jackass: Which Oval amenities are you getting so excited about? The only one that Tishman Speyer might like you to utilize would be OvalMorgue where they would take the gold out of your fillings to pay for the retroactive MCI charges! If you love the "improvements" so much, I guess you don't live anywhere near the dumpsters and construction sites on the property.
Dear John,
I have lived here for more than 10 years and have always loved it.
But now, it's as though obstacles are constantly in my way, and just doing the simplest things is a challenge.
Last night I came home from a business trip and it was a nightmare to unload my car. I had to take a detour to get around the "wall" that has become the 14th St. loop. And I had to do this 5 times! (Don't ask me what's taking so long. They used to pave my entire neighborhood in 2 days where I grew up.)
Thought that I'd sleep in this morning, since I got home so late last night, and didn't have to go to work until later today, but at 8:01 a.m., the banging started.
I really should be doing my laundry right now, but I am procrastinating because all of my neighbors say that the new machines that are an "improvement", absolutely suck.
And the only Oval amenity I want is the OvalOval.
This is no way to live, John. Are you afraid of eviction, is that why you are being so docile?
Don't take it out on Luxie--he's not the one who's trying to kick you out of here.
John, I moved out of Stuyvesant Town last spring. When I first moved to Stuy Town nearly a decade ago I loved it. I thought the apartments were spacious, the grounds and buildings were clean, and I knew all of my neighbors and vice versa. This blog is not lampooning Stuyvesant Town itself, it makes light of the ridiculous choices that Tishman Speyer makes in trying to sell YOUR beloved community down the river. They don’t care about you, your buildings, or your community.
The reason I publish this site is not merely because of Stuyvesant Town, but the bigger picture which is corporate greed buying up and selling off New York City to the highest bidder. Companies like Tishman Speyer do not care about the community. Look at the stores along First Avenue, most of them are corporate chains stores, the rest are TS’s own offices because otherwise they would sit vacant since local businesses can’t afford to pay the rents they are asking. Look at how the neighborhood has changed. Real New Yorkers are being forced out so girls in flip flops and cell phones, along with their boyfriends in polo shirts with the popped collar, can flaunt their false sense of self-entitlement as they walk down the street throwing shade to the people who live here because they (their parents) can afford to pay the type of rents Tishman Speyer is sucking out of them. They don’t come here to contribute to New York City, instead they come to take and move on. It’s destroying our culture and Tishman Speyer is more than happy to cater to them. In 15-20 years, you won’t have a community because anything remotely independently owned and operated will have been replaced by a nail salon, a bar, or another Walgreens. I don’t know why people would choose to watch old black and white movies in Oval Film, that’s why I have AMC…but if that’s the “culture” you crave from NYC, more power to you.
I actually don’t have a lot of time on my hands I just happened to possess the skills it requires to publish a site like this. Reader contributions and tips allow the site to practically write itself.
I am glad you are happy living there but there are also a lot of people who are not happy with the way Tishman Speyer runs the place. I draw this conclusion from the large amount of emails I get from people who either contribute photos, information, or correspondence from management in which they bastardize the human language. I hear from both market rate and stabilized tenants, young and older alike and they are tired of being inconvenienced by management who can’t do simple things like return a phone call or keep an appointment or install a wall that is up to code.
If this blog isn’t your cup of tea you always have the option of not reading it. Thank you.
You don't have to defend your self Luxie. We love your blog and know the REAL truth about the tragedy that has befallen ST/PCV.
Your critic must not get out of their apartment much because even a blind person could see what's happening here.
Oh.. and John, if you do get out... make sure you don't step in a big pile of dog poo. It's one of Tishman's new Amenities. Hope you enjoy !!
I went to Walgeeens tonight to buy gum, WD40, and a bottle of hair color and noticed they are taking over the block. And I still can't find diet soda anywhere.
Mary, I think I saw you at walgreens! I was buying duct tape, a tripod, rope, an enema kit, and a large firm squash. baby, you don't need no diet soda, you be looking fine!
John has never seen a roach in 31 years? Wow ... that's impressive. Perhaps it's because they're all helping me fold my laundry when they turn out the lights in the laundry room a half hour before the posted closing time (another energy conservation measure?)
