Stuyvesant Town and their pimp, Tishman Speyer, know the
best way to distract people from a recent string of bad publicity is, well,
more bad publicity. And what better way to publicly humiliate yourself than by
associating with a couple of American Idol castaways and a boat full of TNT?
As if the Macy's 4th of July Spectacular broadcast wasn't dreary enough due to the overcast, home viewers were subjected to a half hour of tediousness delivered in the form of forgettable songs sung by Jordan Sparks and Katharine McPhee, who tried her damndest to block the view of the fireworks with her oversized Scary Poppins umbrella.
Home viewers thought they finally caught a break from the visual interruptions until a graphic reading "Stuyvesant Town New York City" was displayed on screen about ten times though the complex itself could not be seen in the total darkness of night...through billows of heavy smoke. Real landmarks such as the Brooklyn Bridge and the Statue of Liberty took a back seat to Stuyvesant Town's shadow.
This latest publicity stunt had hoped to increase Stuyvesant Town's exposure so Tish-Spy could possibly rent the thousands of market rate apartments they currently have sitting empty, instead it left their residents gasping for air as the smoke from the river poured through the complex.

The property shows much better to prospective tenants at night under a blanket of thick smoke. Without the banner, people would have confused it with the low-income housing complex a mere 4 blocks down sandwiched in between the power plant, pep boys mega-store, and the senior citizens social security office.
It's so much nicer viewing the fireworks from the comfort of one's livingroom on a 19" Philco! Unless of course, that adorable Natalie Morales and Tiki Barber are hosting it from your roof! Hey! Maybe that's why our roof door was locked!
